SPRING AWAKENING

Music has long drawn inspiration from the natural world.

The changing seasons, flowers in bloom, birdsong, light, silence and the rhythms of nature have inspired composers across centuries to capture moments that words cannot.

This September, the Sydney Art Quartet invites you to experience a remarkable musical journey spanning more than 230 years. 

Beginning with Mozart’s radiant “Spring” Quartet (1782), the music gradually turns inward through György Kurtág’s Aus der Ferne III “From Afar” (1989),  a miniature of extraordinary emotional depth, followed by the exquisite sonic landscape of Toshio Hosokawa’s Blossoming (2007). Webern’s Langsamer Satz (1905) brings late-Romantic warmth and longing, before concluding with one of Haydn’s final and most profound string quartets, Op.76 No.5 (1797).
