This June the Sydney Art Quartet will create a special series of concerts within the breathtaking Great Synagogue Sydney. Called Madama Europa, these concerts will bring to life the true story Europa Rossi, a young jewish singer who found fame at the centre of elite Italian society.
Poised at the crossroads of history, Europa Rossi and her brother Salomone Rossi were key artists at the birth of opera. Through singing, composing, dancing and performing they attained rare prestige within both Jewish and Christian society & changed the course of music forever.
Helping the Art Quartet tell this incredible story are star soprano Roberta Diamond (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis), magnificent violinist Madeleine Easton (Bach Akademie Australia), baroque lutenist Simon Martyn-Ellis (Pinchgut Opera) and organist/harpsichordist Nathan Cox (Ensemble Polyphème).
We are very fortunate to be able to present this series in The Great Synagogue Sydney. Renowned as one of the most beautiful in the world, this heritage listed sacred space is rare jewel.
Combined with The Art Quartet’s fascinating storytelling style, antique Italian instruments, evocative staging and lighting, Madama Europa will feel like a journey to another time and place.
Tickets: Adult $89 / Child $10 / Pinchgut $79
